Joint Entrance Examination (Main) - 2016

Scheme of Examination  

Entrance examination would consist of two papers i.e. 1st paper consisting of three parts of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics of equal weightage with objective type questions for BE/B.Tech courses and 2nd paper – consisting of Mathematics,Aptitude Test and Drawing for B. Architecture and B. Planning. The Aptitude Test is designed to evaluate candidate’s perception, imagination, observation, creativity and architectural awareness.

Scoring and Negative Marking

There will be objective type questions with four options having single correct answer. For each incorrect response one fourth (1/4) of the total marks allotted to the question would be deducted. No deduction from the total score will, however, be made if no response is indicated for an item in the answer sheet. The candidates are advised not to attempt such item in the answer sheet if they are not sure of the correct response. More than one answer indicated against a question will be deemed as incorrect response and will be negatively marked.All objective type questions are required to be answered on specially designed machine gradable answer sheets. Answers are to be marked using ball point pen (black/blue) only. For the purpose of evaluation, Test Booklet Code as printed in the Answer Sheet on Side-2 will be accepted as final.

For those unable to appear in JEE on scheduled date of examination for any reason, including loss of application form/admit card in transit, no re-examination shall be held under any circumstances. The schedule will remain unaltered even if the date is declared as a public holiday. 

Students may move to the venue of examination for refreshment etc. if they have applied for BE/B.Tech and B. Arch/B. Planning together.

Scheduled Caste(SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST)/ Person with Disabilities [PWD] candidates - Born or after October 01, 1986



Only those candidates who have passed their Class 12th Exam or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2014 or 2015: or those who are appearing in their Class 12th Exam or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2016 are eligible to appear in JEE (Main) – 2016. Candidates who passed Class 12th /Qualifying examination in 2013 or before as well as those who will appear in such examination in 2017 or later are not eligible to appear in JEE (Main) – 2016. The candidates who appeared in class 12th / equivalent qualifying Examinations in 2013, did not pass in 2013, but passed in 2014 are also not eligible to appear in JEE (Main) 2016.

The candidates willing to appear for improvement examination of class 12th in 2016 have to appear in all the 4/5 subjects as per the scheme of study of the concerned board. Further, they may also note that in the percentile system, the total marks (of all five subjects) obtained/shown on the mark-sheet of a particular year are required in JEE (Main) and also in JEE (Advanced). The marks from two different year’s (i.e. marks for 3 subjects from year 2015 and marks for other 2 subjects from 2016) mark-sheets cannot be considered for percentile calculation.


The number of attempts which a candidate can avail at JEE (Main) shall be limited to 03 (three).

The Paper -2 [B.Arch/B.Planning] will have three section. Section -I consists Mathemetics Objective type question. Section-II consists objective questions on Architectural Aptitude. Section III consists Drawing Test.
