Footwear Design and Development Institute commonly known, as “FDDI” is the leading Institute in India for Infrastructure Development for the footwear industry and Human Resource Development. FDDI is a society registered under the societies Act, 1860, sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce, Govt. of India. In 1984, the Government of India viewed with grave concern about inadequate exports of Indian Footwear in the global market. To enhance India’s share in what was termed as a “sun-shine” industry, a high-level committee was constituted to carry out an in-depth study of the problem and suggest remedial measures to overcome those shortcomings. Among the shortcomings discussed were the inadequate number of trained footwear technologists available to the Footwear Industry and an organization that would impart state-of the art training in footwear technology at Graduate/Post Graduates levels. A logical corollary of this was the necessity to set up such an organization to train students who would be absorbed by industry on completion of their training. |
